News Summary

Ever since Colorado State University (CSU) banned beer sales at the school's football games, the number of people coming to the stadium intoxicated has increased, the Associated Press reported Nov. 1.

"The drinking has increased," said campus Police Chief Dexter Yarborough. "People are coming to the stadium more intoxicated than they were before."

The ban was enacted following the alcohol poisoning death of 19-year-old CSU sophomore Samantha Spady.

A task force, formed after Spady's death to examine the school's alcohol education and practices, said the beer ban at the stadium has also led to a number of complaints from the community.

"I think we've reached the point where enforcement of existing policies have reached their limit," said Anne Hudgens, who oversees the school's judicial-affairs office and is a member of the task force.
