Under the Influence, Part 2: Treating Addictions, Reducing Corrections Costs
The report recommends expanding the New Hampshire Department of Corrections' "Academy Program" and taking other steps to increase treatment for offenders while also protecting public safety. The Center's analysis of the Academy shows that it has saved about $10 million since 1996 or two dollars for every dollar of public funds invested. The research was financed in part by New Futures and a major grant by the Endowment for Health. The NH Center for Public Policy Studies is an independent, nonpartisan organization dedicated to bringing data-based research to bear on issues important to the state.
