Policy Brief: School-Based Prevention
The cut to school-based alcohol and drug prevention programs is part of a much broader policy change. Federal funding for all alcohol and drug prevention programming has been reduced by 21 percent over the FY 2001 to FY 2007 period.
Research shows that substance abuse prevention programs are effective in reducing the likelihood that young people will start using drugs. This policy brief explains why prevention must remain center stage in our nation's drug abuse control policy.
