Medicaid EPSDT and AOD Treatment Services
This policy brief examines the federal requirements of Medicaid Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) in general; explores three states' coverage of child/adolescent AOD treatment services under Medicaid; identifies components of state EPSDT practices that may be applicable to other states and discusses considerations for states interested in developing Medicaid reimbursable AOD services for children and adolescents. Findings indicate that there are many methods at a state's disposal that can be used to ensure access to medically necessary AOD services, which can assist states in maintaining costs and utilization of services.
