Make a Difference: Talk to Your Child about Alcohol

This booklet by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is geared to parents and guardians of young people ages ten to fourteen as a guide in helping their children avoid alcohol use.

This guide provides parents with strategies, including: tips for communicating with their teens about alcohol, ways to spot the warning signs of potential drinking problems, and the necessary actions they must take to help their teens resist alcohol.

Study after study shows that even during the teen years, parents have an enormous influence on their children's behaviors, values, and decisions about drinking before he or she begins to use alcohol. This guide emphasizes how important it is for parents to make a difference in the lives of their teens.
