Frequently Asked Questions

Submitting Content for Publication

We welcome submissions for publication on this website and in our e-mail news service. This page outlines the kind of material we can use and how to submit content. Please carefully read the guidelines for your type of submission before sending it, as material not meeting them will not be considered. Submission instructions are at the end.

Suggestions for News, Research, and Funding Coverage

Most of the daily content published in the News section consists of staff-written summaries of published news accounts, research findings, and funding information. We also publish original feature stories and shorter reports on current issues, funding trends and notable community-based strategies or leadership.

Although we rarely publish unsolicited news or feature articles, we eagerly welcome news tips, story ideas and other suggestions for coverage. When pitching a story, include a direct web link (URL) for all sources. (How to submit)

Letters and Commentary

We welcome submissions for guest commentary -- timely opinion pieces that are thought-provoking and elegantly written. We publish commentaries from a healthy range of perspectives, but all successful submissions are fact-based, persuasively argued and constructive in tone.

We also publish, in letter-to-the-editor format, concise reader responses to material published by Join Together. When writing, state that you want your comments to be considered for publication, and provide your full name, city and state. Published submissions may be edited for length or clarity. Announcements and Press Releases

We publish, verbatim, selected press releases and formal announcements from other organizations, provided the material is consistent with our mission and of practical interest to a broad readership. Generally, announcements we publish are of at least statewide interest, and most are national in scope. Submissions that are merely exercises in self-promotion will not be considered.

Typical topics for published announcements and press releases include published (peer-reviewed) research, upcoming conferences and events, and new, noncommercial publications or websites.

We generally do not publish announcements of commercial products for sale, although we may consider some of these items for listing in our Resource database (see below). We also do not publish job announcements or, except in rare cases of national interest, announcements of position appointments, funding received, or special honors.

All announcement submissions must include full public contact information and be ready to publish as is. We may edit headlines for length or style, and formatting is limited to bulleted lists, hyperlinks, and italic and bold text. We cannot include data tables or graphics. (How to submit)

Action Alerts

We actively solicit action alerts of regional, statewide or national interest. We provide our State Action Pages as a vehicle for local groups to spread the word and get others involved in their efforts for change. Selected action alerts of at least statewide interest may also appear in email newsletters we publish.

As with announcements and press releases, action alerts must include full public contact information and be ready to publish as is. The formatting constraints for announcements also apply to alerts. (How to submit)

Resources

We catalog selected print publications, online documents, websites and other resources of interest in our Resources Database, which powers the "related resources" on thousands of news article pages. Preference is given to noncommercial organizations. We do not list speakers, presentations, or commercial curriculum materials and videos.

To suggest a Resource, submit an exact URL where the public can find it, a one- or two-sentence description of the website or resource, and any ordering information when appropriate.

How to Submit

All material must be submitted by e-mail to editor@jointogether.org. Please do not use attachments; put everything you want us to consider in the body of the message.

Please note: Although we are only able to respond to submissions that we publish, all are read and considered. We reserve the right to choose or reject submissions based solely on our editorial judgment.
