Kidney Health Benefits from Moderate Drinking ReportedMay 21, 2007
Research Summary
Researchers say that moderate alcohol consumption could have benefits for kidney health, Reuters reported May 18.
A review of 12 published studies found that individuals who consumed one or two alcoholic drinks daily were 25 percent less likely to develop kidney-cell cancer than nondrinkers. Daily drinkers seemed to experience more health benefits than those who consumed alcohol on a less-frequent basis.
The reviewed studies included hundreds of thousands of men and women, and tracked subjects over a period of 7 to 20 years.
The research led by Jung Eun Lee at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston was published in the May 16, 2007 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
