Inhalant Abuse More Common Among White YouthMarch 20, 2006
Research Summary
Kids from white, well-off families are more likely to abuse inhalants than poorer kids or those from other ethnic groups, CNN reported March 16.
A federal study concluded that 34 percent of 12- to 17-year-olds who had tried inhalants for the first time came from families whose income was 200-399 percent over the federal poverty level; 33 percent came from families with incomes 400 percent or more over the poverty level.
Popular inhalants included glue, shoe polish, toluene, gasoline, lighter fluid, nitrous oxide, and spray paint.
