Student Drinkers More Likely to Be Bored in SchoolJanuary 25, 2005

Teen drinkers were more likely to be bored in school than their non-drinking peers, a new Gallup poll concludes.The New York Times reported Jan. 16 that 63 percent of students drinkers said they were bored in school, compared to 45 percent of nondrinkers. Half of drinkers also said they were tired in school, compared to 39 percent of nondrinkers.
Just 19 percent of drinkers said they were happy in school, compared with 36 percent of nondrinkers.
Half of all students said they were bored in school, while 42 percent said "tired" best described how they usually felt at school. Gallup surveyed 785 students aged 13 to 17.
Asked how they would be punished by their parents for offenses like drinking, 46 percent said they would be grounded or have privileges taken away.
