Research Summary
The National Institute on Drug Abuse will host "Smart Practice, Practical Science: Blending Treatment and Research," June 6-7 at the Sheraton Bal Harbour Hotel in Miami.The two-day conference will bring together clinicians and researchers to examine cutting-edge scientific findings about addiction and their application to clinical practice. As in other fields of medicine, a gap exists in the treatment field between clinical practice and scientific research. By bringing together leading treatment clinicians and researchers, this conference will provide an opportunity to bridge that gap.
Treatment counselors, social workers, healthcare providers, criminal justice staff, marriage and family counselors, public health workers, physicians, researchers interested in drug abuse and addiction issues, and the media are encouraged to attend.
Plenary sessions will be presented by Nora D. Volkow, M.D., director, National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and other experts in the field of drug abuse and addiction. The conference will include sessions on:
