Legalize Marijuana to Protect Our (Adult) Kids, Some Calif. Moms Say

News Summary

Some "soccer moms" in California say that they would support marijuana legalization so that their adult children don't have to run the risk of buying drugs on the street, according to recent polls.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Jan. 5 that Ruth Berstein of EMC Research said that suburban voters could be the key to whether a proposed legalization ballot initiative passes this fall, and that some Democratic and independent women cited some interesting reasons for supporting the Tax and Regulate Initiative.

"One of the scary things to some people is that their kids may be buying it from someone dangerous," said Bernstein.

Backers of the initiative have collected more than enough signatures to get the measure on the ballot. Bernstein said that about 15 percent of voters are undecided about whether or not to support the initiative.

I can't believe Join Together would even post this. All marijuana is dangerous, and this scam was created by NORML. NORML has been trying to legalize marijuana for forty years. In that period the THC contect has gone from about .5% to over 10% and as high as 37%. Enlightened soccer moms will send this ballot iniative packing.

Yup, it's a proud day in America when Moms protect their ADULT children from the law! They are adults. If they make the choice to break the law, they make the choice to be punished by the law! This mentality of pampering the "ME Generation" is the reason our country is falling apart. This generation can not run this country because they need their Mommies to fix all their messes!

Maybe the PTO has found a new fundraiser?

Right now in LA 60% of the marijuana shops are controled by the Mexican Mafia. There is no way that they will stop selling marijuana because it is legal now. They will just undercut the so called taxed marijuana. Thier adult children will continue to buy from the Cartels and Mexican Mafia for $50 less an ounce.

I agree with Roger Morgan. Join Together posts some marijuana articles that have made me wonder what their stand is on marijuana. There is plenty of scientific evidence that cannabis abuse is medically unhealthy both short term and long term. JT: What is your official stand on legalizing pot? Community substance abuse prevention coalitions across America want to know!

Join Together has no official position on legalization. From an editorial perspective, our policy for the past 15-plus years has been to cover all sides of issues like these objectively, leaving it to our knowledgable and intelligent readers to decide for themselves which issues have merit and which do not.

Mission: Join Together is a project of Boston University School of Public Health...... Join Together helps community leaders understand and use the most current scientifically valid prevention and treatment approaches. "Public Health" "Scientifically Valid" "Prevention" ...all these terms in your mission statement imply that you are a substance abuse prevention organization that is working to improve public health. Join Together's mission statement does not say anywhere that it is an objective news reporter.

Roger Morgan ("All marijuana is dangerous"): the high-THC cannabis (one-toke herb) is "dangerous" mainly to the tobackgo industry, which depends on hot-burning-overdose 700-mg. $igarettes for its profit margin. High-THC "skunkweed" has taught wise CONSERVATIVE users to restrict dosage (what did you think one-toke meant??) eliminating most carbon monoxide and other combustion toxins. But if that behavior also became popular among nicotine users, a "pack-a-day" addict (half an ounce!) might continue smoking tobacco, but use 1/20th as much! Bye bye profits! Maybe that's why the Industry gives 2/3 of its political money to "anti-drug" Republican Party...?

The point is, in case any of you missed it, that right now, in spite of over 70 years of prohibition, cannabis is easier for a teenager to buy than tobacco or alcohol. By controlling and moderating the distribution of cannabis, we take it out of the hands of criminals (pushers, in case you had any doubts, do not ask for ID, and recruit youngsters to sell to their peers); and put it under strict surveillance through licensed and responsible vendors. Prohibition does not work, never has worked, never will work. What is prohibited CANNOT be controlled or moderated.Regulation IS law and order. -- And, Join Together, thank you for your willingness to present all sides of the issue (even those I don't agree with).
