News Summary

The Tennessee House of Representatives approved legislation that would allow people who have handgun permits to bring the weapons into alcohol-serving establishments, the Associated Press reported May 8.

The measure, which passed by a 66-23 vote, departs from earlier efforts that sought to impose a curfew for carrying handguns in establishments that serve alcohol or completely ban handguns in age-restricted establishments.

State restaurant groups and police organizations oppose the legislation, though Rep. Curry Todd (R- Collierville), who sponsored the bill, said the groups did not actively voice their opposition to him.

If the bill passes the state Senate, it will go to Gov. Phil Bredesen, who has not said whether he will approve the bill.

Guns and Alcohol. Insane combination. Can only mean one out come, death. Are these people thinking? Don't we have enough violence in America?

The good people of Tennessee can only hope that the governor's brain works, unlike most of the house.

I love this country where else can you have people that think a gun in a bar is a sensible idea. In another state Connect has been debating on whether or not to decriminalize Pot 1/2 oz and can't make up there minds but make more intense debates then guns in bars. Who would think this would happen in the same country. How about we just change all laws to a simple one that states you are responsible for your own actions regardless of anything at all or who you are and let people do as they please as long as they don't harm anybody?

This legislation would certainly make barroom brawls in Tennessee a lot more interesting. What, if anything, are those politicians thinking? If the governor has any brains at all he will nix this bill.
