News Summary

Kansas lawmakers have tabled a bill that would have imposed a statewide indoor-smoking ban, likely killing the measure for this year's legislative session.

The Associated Press reported March 18 that the Kansas House Health and Human Services Committee said it needed more information on the bill, which previously passed the state Senate on a 26-13 vote. State legislative committees meet for the last time this year on Friday, meaning the measure is probably dead.

The bill would have banned smoking in and near bars, restaurants, workplaces and government buildings.

While I am not opposed to smokers being respectful by not smoking around non-smokers I am all for government staying out of regulating private businesses. Way to go Kansas lawmakers!

Hard to believe that anyone still wants less government regulation of businesses after that is what caused our economic crisis and unsafe foods (eg peanuts)! Plus all the unnecessary suffering and disease that could be prevented by this type of regulation. Sad day for Kansas!
