News Summary

Medical-marijuana legislation is receiving more support than usual in the Illinois legislature and may have a chance of passing, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported March 29.

An Illinois House of Representatives committee approved the bill last month  and the state House and Senate are debating measures that would allow patients to use marijuana to alleviate chronic pain and nausea when no other treatment is helpful.

Debate over the topic has taken place in Illinois annually for the last several years, but this is the first time the bill has passed a House committee.

Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago), who supported the bill in the past, became Senate president this year, which may be contributing to the heightened activity surrounding the bills.

I would never suggest that anyone who is ill or in pain be denied medication that might help, but the way the medical marijuana bill is written is inviting huge problems for communities throughout the state. If we look at what has happened in other states we can learn from their mistakes. Allowing people to grow there own is an invitation to non-prescription useage. Impaired work/driving accidens will climb, and law enforcement won't be able to keep up with the problems that arise. We need to take another good look at this bill before it moves forward!

I fought in Iraq with the 101 airborne in 2003 I have terrible nightmars and ptsd. marijuana is the only thing that stops my dreams. the government can perscribe adarol which is methamphetamine and all other drugs for depression they perscribe most of the time get recalled. How many people's lives have been riuned by the government while the government and drug companys are making money. For being a free country and having personal liberty's I feel like im in Nazi Germany

"Impaired work/driving accidens will climb, and law enforcement won't be able to keep up with the problems that arise." How many accidents are there now that can be attributed to marijuana? Alcohol is legal to buy w/o a prescription and causes alot more deaths than marijuana.

driving under the influence of marijuana is going on everyday, at least 99% of the smokers are high on a daily basis, How do I know I work in the field and I see it everyday...legal medical, or not is not going to stop an addict from driving...this is an everlasting battle, guess who is winning...
