California Likely to Vote on Marijuana Legalization in 2010

News Summary

Supporters are now gathering signatures to place up to three proposals to legalize marijuana on the California ballot next fall, the Associated Press reported Oct. 7.

Some polls have shown that a majority of California residents now support legalization, although the drug would remain illegal under federal law regardless of what state voters say. If the ballot questions are approved, however, the state would not only stop prosecuting marijuana offenses but cease cooperation with federal law enforcement, as well. Most marijuana arrests are made at the state level.

One ballot question calls for legalizing possession of up to one ounce of marijuana by adults ages 21 and older. Another would allow individuals to grow a 5x5 plot of marijuana on their property, while a third would allow local governments to decide whether to allow marijuana sales in their community.

Let's see, we have legalized alcohol, gambling, legalized prostitution in Nevada, and whatever other vise that is legalized - why not legalize marijuana? "Money, get back. I'm all right jack keep your hands off of my stack. Money, it’s a hit. Don't give me that do goody good..." (“Money" Pink Floyd – 1973).

Assuming legalization is impending, the important priority might be to eliminate several foci of abuse which would threaten to cause backlash. 1. Promote use of vaporizsers and develop the thc-laden e-cigarette, eliminating the overdose of smoking toxins that occur with the "joint" (i.e. "giant" as in overdose) and the sidestream smoke which invades the rights of others. 2. Get rid of the unscientific habit of using the smear term "drug" or "the drug" referring to cannabis which is a nutritional supplement. 3. To users: ignore hedonistic "cannabis culture" (actually $igarette commercials in disguise) and combine your use with work and education, preferably the green (pro-environment) kind.

I am with ANON on this we need to do this RIGHT! LEGALIZE, REGULATE, EDUCATED... See, it has been over looked for so long because it would be a disgrace to allow cannabis to become like big tobacco or alcohol, or ever PHARAMA. From a place of compassion is where this plant needs to be kept, NOT like it is currently as a commodity.
