News Summary

Law-enforcement officials raided an illicit backcountry California marijuana grow operation and destroyed 318,000 plants, which authorities valued as worth $1.2 billion on the street, the Associated Press reported July 23.

State and federal agents arrested 83 people as part of the operation and seized $41,000 in cash and 25 weapons. The marijuana was being grown in multiple locations in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Fresno Country, allegedly by Mexican drug cartels. "We found it planted on hillsides and gullies, and some of the plants had grown to be eight feet tall," aid Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims.

However, Mims said that the operation had accounted for only a fraction of the marijuana being grown in the region.

I'm sure it was destined to be medicinal marijuana. Where do you think all the dispensories are getting their weed, their members? I don't think they have th drive or ability to grow their own stuff, that is why they go to a dispensory.

Hey Verde, can I borrow your crystal ball sometime?

All marijuana is medical marijuana. Marijuana is a safe and effective medicine for AIDS, cancer, Arthritis, Alzheimers, Chronic pain, headaches, PTSD, IBS, Anxiety and OCD and many more. Learn as much as you can about this safe medicine and work to end the war on marijuana today!

If the value is $1.2 billion (such reports are usually exaggerated, maybe to make the cops look heroic) then it amounts to $1.2 billion worth of quasimilitary assistance to Big 2Wackgo, which survives today, festering upon 20% of the adult American population, primarily through the risk, scarcity and high price of the principal nonaddictive alternative herb. These Big Bust stories in the media serve the purpose of trying to make cannabis users or suppliers look stupid, helpless or "imoral" (it must be criminal otherwise the cops wouldn't bust them, right?). A related example is the Michael Phelps bong picture, which appeared on "News of the World" with huge letters across the picture, "What a Dope". After the reader recovered from the shock of the rude scary words and dug deeper into the picture to see what was going on, they could identify the face of the famous athlete and determine that a bong was indeed involved. All of that detail got digested during and intermixed with the aftershock from seeing the uncivil contemptuous slogan in big letters. Thus Pack-a-day Goebbels lives on in modern anti-cannabis smear stories.

Join Together brings news of substance abuse PREVENTION efforts. Destroying 318,000 marijuana plants is news that those of us who have been devastated by the weed welcome. Those who have decided to go with the flow to legalize the weed and those who are pushing to legalize it are speaking out as they try to create momentum. I will continue to speak against it because it is addictive, it does alter your existence and it is not a safe alternative to pharmaceuticals to manage symptoms of illness. It is not a better choice than cigarettes ... they are both bad for you. It "dopes" you ... so it is accurate to call it dope. My family has grown plants taller than 8 feet when they were selling through a co-op. Back then, you didn't have to get a prescription, you just had to "feed the pot" with your money. My entire family continues to pay the price for the actions of some of our members. I have chosen to live my life soberly and that excludes marijuana use. It is a harmful, addictive drug and it should remain illegal.

Shame on Join Together in not reporting the whole story. Why was Drug Tzar Gil Kerlikowske, director of the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy statement that "Marijuana legalization is not in his vocabulary or the Presidents vocabulary." This was reported in the origional story of the Fresno Bee, but JTO editors left it out. Once again JTO showing they are not an impartial in delivering news. JTO has turned into a shill for drug legalizers.

Join Together posts brief summaries of previously published news stories, so of necessity certain information, quotes, etc. from the original stories is typically consolidated or deleted from our postings. However, we always link back to the original stories (when available online) so that readers may read the full story if they wish. A quick look at the link on this summary shows that the quote from Kerlikowske cited by John does not appear in the original Associated Press article that we summarized.

Dear JTO. You chose the one story that didn't have his quote, yet you printed and continue to print DPA bogus story that Attorney General Holder said they will not shut down marijuana dispensaeies in Calif.

Mr. Curley, John has a point, I have read the article from a couple different sources and that should have been mentioned. We have more and more people posting their pro-pot agenda on our forum. Our goal is to come together to combat drugs, tobacco and alcohol. Three thing that are killing our family members. So lets use our website to disperse the good facts as well. Stay Sober!

Anonymous, it doesn't take a crystal ball, just read the post under yours. It is a fact, you really don't believe that collectives are getting their dope from their clients like they are suppose to, do you? They are getting it the same way the drug dealers are. Humboldt, Mendocino, BC, & Columbia, via Mexico. If you matched the DNA, you would see how right I am. I can certainly see how members of these collectives could be responsible for exchanging guns for weed in Mexico. It's okay, as a country we are going to reap the whirlwind.

Maxwood says "These Big Bust stories in the media serve the purpose of trying to make cannabis users or suppliers look stupid, helpless or "imoral" (it must be criminal otherwise the cops wouldn't bust them, right?)" He is convinced JT is trying to make pot users look bad. John from oceanside says "JTO has turned into a shill for drug legalizers." Did they both read the same article?

I agree with twobits. I've been down that road and don't agree that it is a healthy way to go! It's dope, and that's that! Let's don't make excuses for getting high.

Fellow prevention minded list members should not forget that anyone can post here, so you should consider that those with pro-drug messages may be trying to infiltrate this list with an attempt to "normalize" their message. If you see something posted here that is counter to efforts to prevent the devasation of lives by alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other illicit drugs as well as the rising abuse of prescription medication ... then speak up. If it gets you in the gut ... if you know it is not true ... if you think it is only half the story ... make yourself heard.

I work with those who are addicted to marijuana and other drugs legal and nonleagal. It's very sad to me to see the families and lives that have been ruined at the hands of marijuana. Wake up and see what this is doing to our country. for those of you that are for legalization, where are your lives going? If you haven't had any negative impact, then you are very lucky.

I don't condone the use of marijuana, but how do I explain to my teenagers/young adults that it is not good for you, when they see an Olympic world record holder smoking out of a bong? For me, it's a tough sell, as they are getting tons of peer pressure to participate in smoking dope. And yes, I do see it ruining lives, some fairly quickly, but others, so slowly that the users and people aroung them hardly notice it

So cannabis MAY cause dependency with a very SMALL percentage of those who use it. So what? There are many other things which cause dependency that are more harmful to us than cannabis use. Instead of treating the dependency as a medical issue, it is dealt with by the criminal justice system, which arguably is the worst consequence of its use. So what do you want, a Nanny State, where everything which MAY not be good for ALL people is prohibited? Get real.
