News Summary

The European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction estimates that about one in five adults in Europe use marijuana or hashish, AFP reported June 26.

The center released a 700-page report on marijuana use, saying that about 13 million Europeans used marijuana during the month preceding the survey.

The price for a gram of the drug varies widely, the report noted, from about $2.19 in Spain to $33.68 in Norway. Drug laws also differ, with countries like Denmark and Italy taking a hard-line approach while possession has been decriminalized in Portugal.

Another pro-marijuana article from Join Together (and we will legalize Marijuana in the United States). This is a hidden pro marijuana use message. Join together has a good balance on every other drug, even alcohol, except for Marijuana!

Maybe J.T. knows where the REAL drug problems lie and are coming to the realization that PRESCRIPTION drugs are the KILLERS. I found this article nothing but a couple facts and figures and VERY fair and balanced.

$943.04 an OUNCE for cannabis in the country of "Europe"? (Where is that, by the way? And why isn't Spain part of it?) That one sentence was enough for me to ignore the entire (700 page?!?) report. Marijuana remains a "problem" because that status means money for providers, police and puritanical potentates. It also means less competition for pharmaceutical, tobacco and alcohol pushers. At least our government has made Afghanistan safe again for their recent massive increase in opium production. Thank heavens they're not growing ganja there -- we'd have to get really concerned then.

Thanks for pointing out the typo in the last paragraph, Bernie. It's Norway, and we've made the correction.
