News Summary

Facing a $217-million budget shortfall, Delaware lawmakers are considering an increase in the state's alcohol tax among a series of proposed remedies for the state's fiscal crisis, Forbes reported June 19.

Other tax increases on the table include a levy on hospital revenues; the state also is considering more corporate fees and taking a greater share of revenues from slot machines at Delaware casinos.

A mix of budget cuts and tax and fee increases is being proposed to close the budget gap.
