News Summary

A Florida man who drank at least 23 shots of vodka mixed with Red Bull energy drink in about 30 minutes quickly collapsed at the bar where he was drinking and later died, ABC News reported June 27.

Eric Morris, aged 26, 6-foot-4 and weighing 210 pounds, ordered dozens of "cherry bomb" shots at a Seffner, Fla., adult nightclub called Angels Show Bar. "Witnesses told us that the bartender kept setting up glasses of shots for [Morris] and then for whatever reason decided at shot glass 24 or 25 that she wasn't going to serve him anymore," said Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway.

Shortly after being refused any more alcohol, Morris reportedly staggered from the bar and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead a few hours later.

Morris formerly worked as a bouncer at the bar, and was recently released from prison. His sister, Jacqui, said that her brother may have been trying to prove his strength by drinking so much. "It's just because we had to be tough," she said. "We were raised to be tough."

"They should have cut him off after the first five," she added.

Since when does "tough" equate to "stupid?" Any idiot should know that that much liquor after a period of enforced abstinence is a death sentence. Well, they say judgment is the first faculty to become impaired when you use alcohol, so the bartender is the real culprit. I hope she is dealt with in a harsh way by the legal system.

The woman who injected John Balucci with herion was charged with manslaughter and did time in jail. This bartender was no different. She cut him off at 24 shots give me a break. She needs to do time also. The bars should get their license suspended or revolked too.

Both the bartender and the bar owner should be charged with extreme negligence as well as manslaughter. Maybe a stint in prison will help them with their prioritize better. Protecting a human life is more important than profit or entertainment. The bartender's callous disregard for alcohol poisoning and the owner's stupidity for employing this woman both contributed to this young man's demise. The bar owner's license should be revoked and he should be barred from ever obtaining another. Although I'm not a fan of deep-pocket litigation... this one deserves an exception. This is a simple call. Some of us stand for legalizing drugs. We argue that adults should have the right to choose whether or not to use. This guy made his choice. His bad. But we have to recognize that society must set some boundaries to protect us when we are incapable of making a rational decision. In this case, the boundary is the law prohibiting the bar from serving inebriated customers. Their bad. And their decision to serve this guy a lethal quantity of alcohol goes beyond that, into criminality.

I would just like to ask who's arm raised the glass to his mouth, the bartender?

One of the first organs impacted by alcohol is the brain. This man wasn't thinking clearly or coherently after the first couple of shots. Hopefully the bartender wasn't also intoxicated. We ask people to take away the car keys of friends we believe too intoxicated to drive because their judgement is so impaired. This bartender was negligent in her duty.

Personal responsibility, folks! Why do we call for legislation to protect people who are stupid enough to harm themselves? The bartender showed poor judgement, but her job was to sell as much alcohol as possible, not to babysit someone who should have known better. As a, society, we have given her a job to do, and that job is 'acceptable' to us. Charging her is as ricidulous as charging a gun shop with murder, or a car salesman with vehicular homicide. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY - where HAS it gone???????????
