Some Kids Abusing Ambien, Florida Doc Says

Some adolescents are stealing the sleep medication Ambien from their parents' medicine cabinet and using it to get high, according to a doctor at Broward General Hospital in Florida.

WPLG-TV10 in Fort Lauderdale reported May 2 that Ambien and Ambien CR are known by names like "A-Minus." Some worry that it will be used as a "date-rape" drug, although no such cases were cited.

Nabil El Sandi of Broward General Hospital said that Ambien is a sedative hypnotic that acts on the central nervous system and could be deadly if used in combination with alcohol.

"If they take it with alcohol it could cause stupor, cause their respiration to drop, their breathing can slow down and even stop. They can actually die from it," he said.

Its not used for daterape, its used to put you in an alternative state of mind.
