N.M. Drug-Dealer Registry Proposed January 16, 2007

A public registry listing the names and addresses of former drug dealers would be created under new state legislation being championed by New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, the Associated Press reported Jan. 15.
Richardson, a Democrat, has joined forced with Republican Congressman Steve Pearce to call for passage of the registry bill, as well as a separate public listing of homes that previously had been used as meth labs.
The governor also is asking lawmakers to spend $20 million on addiction-treatment services, including $9 million for a new inpatient treatment program.
