News Summary

A recent NASA report concluded that astronauts did not fly drunk into space, but has agency officials considering drug-testing of its employees, the Associated Press reported Aug. 29.

NASA Administrator Michael Griffin said the agency would develop a policy for post-accident and for-cause drug testing of astronauts and other agency workers. A 1991 law required NASA to develop an alcohol-testing policy, but the agency never did so.

NASA also plans to add excessive drinking to a list of banned activities for astronauts in the year before they launch.
