News Summary

A trio of Atlanta police officers who shot to death an 88-year-old woman during a "no-knock" drug raid have been indicted by a grand jury, including two accused of felony murder, CNN reported April 26.

Officer Gregg Junnier was indicted on three charges of felony murder, two counts of burglary, and one count of aggravated assault. Officer Jason Smith was charged with four counts of felony murder, two counts of giving false statements, two counts of burglary, and one count of aggravated assault. Officer Arthur Tesler was charged with making false statements and false imprisonment.

The three burst unannounced into the home of Kathryn Johnston last November based on an informant's tip that he had purchased drugs there. The offficers said that Johnston, who was afraid of criminals in her neighborhood, shot at them with a pistol and that they returned fire in self-defense.

The informant later recanted his story.
