News Summary

Cigarettes are expensive in Great Britain, and the majority of teen smokers in the U.K. buy their "fags" in packages of 10 cigarettes to make the purchase more affordable. Now, however, there's a move afoot to ban the 10-packs from store shelves, the Telegraph reported April 23.

The U.K. Department of Health is considering the ban, part of a series of recommendations issued by physicians aimed at preventing youth smoking. The report from the British Medical Association (BMA) also called for banning tobacco vending machines and raising cigarette prices.

One in five British teens are regular smokers, the BMA report said, and 55 percent of teen smokers said their last cigarette purchase was a 10-pack.
