Al Gore's Son Diverted to Rehab in Drug Case

Facing two felony charges for possession of marijuana and prescription medication, the son of former Vice President Al Gore has pled guilty and will enter a Malibu, Calif., addiction treatment program rather than prison, the Orange County Register reported July 31.

Albert Gore III was arrested on July 4 after police stopped his speeding car and found marijuana and a variety of prescription pills in his possession. Gore did not have prescriptions for the Vicodin, Xanax, Adderall or Valium in the car.

Under California's drug diversion program, Gore will be able to withdraw his guilty plea and have his record cleared if he completes the 90-day rehabilitation program. If he doesn't, he could face up to three years and eight months in prison.

There was a time when I would read a story like this and would have a sense of superiority or somehow feel that it touched that family and would never touch mine. Now I know that drugs can impact any family. A loved one who struggles with addictions will pull everyone into their world. You are thinking, praying, talking or reacting to something that they say or do. I will pray for Al Gore Sr. and Jr. and the whole family.
