News Summary

The nonprofit group FACE has developed a new, Web-based underage-drinking prevention and education campaign similar to the American Legacy Foundation's "Truth" antismoking project, the Hartford Courant reported Aug. 25.

One of the first local agencies slated to adopt the FACE campaign -- unveiled last week at the National Leadership Conference in Baltimore -- is the Connecticut Coalition to Stop Underage Drinking. "It's very exciting because it's really trying to reach kids in their domain," said coalition vice president Craig Turner.

"We know education in the schools works marginally, at best," whereas the Internet-based campaign will reach kid directly, without police, parents or teachers acting as intermediaries, added Turner.

The campaign's website is www.utakeitback.org.
