News Summary

Addiction experts in the Dallas area are reporting that teens are being hospitalized after consuming a mix of black-tar heroin and over-the-counter cold medicine* popularly known as "cheese," KLTV-7 reported Nov. 18.

Students reportedly snort the mix of a small amount of heroin and drugs like Tylenol PM. The mix has been sold at area middle schools and high schools for about $2 a dose.

"Cheese" contains about 8 percent heroin, Texas sources said.

*Correction notice 11/21/06: As originally published, this news summary erroneously stated that the cold medicine is prescription. It is over-the-counter.
