A new Rhode Island law will penalize adults who allow underage drinking in their homes, even if they do not supply the alcohol, the Associated Press reported.

Penalties include a $350 to $1,000 fine and up to 6 months in jail.

The measure was signed into law by Gov. Donald Carcieri. Fifteen other states have already adopted similar laws.
