Pride Survey Released June 5, 2006
News Summary
The Pride Surveys Questionnaire for Parents (PDF), which includes queries on everything from youth drug use to the effectiveness of prevention and the impact of alcohol advertising, has been released.
CADCA reported June 1 that the survey, completed by more than 17,000 parents, indicated "strong support" for community coalitions, school-based drug education, student-assistance programs, and after-school activities. For example, 66 percent of parents said that schools do a good job of educating students about drugs, and majorities also saw the media, religious groups, and student-led school groups as effective.
"We are pleased with the results from this survey, because they demonstrate how much the nation values community-based prevention," said CADCA Chairman and CEO Arthur T. Dean.
Respondents gave the highest marks to themselves, with about three-quarters of participants saying that parents can effectively prevent their children from using alcohol and other drugs, and that parents have the primary responsibility for keeping kids safe.
