Pete Coors Loses License for DUI July 18, 2006
News Summary
Beer executive Pete Coors' driver's license was revoked after a hearing officer ruled on July 14 that Coors had been driving under the influence, the Associated Press reported on July 16.
On May 28, Coors failed to stop at a stop sign in Golden, Colorado and was driving with a blood alcohol level of .088.
'I didn't think I was impaired, otherwise I wouldn't have been driving,' said Coors, 59, who has been chief executive of Coors Brewing Co. since 2000 and appears in his company's television ads.
Coors claimed that he drank one beer 30 minutes before leaving a friend's wedding.
'I made a mistake,' said Coors in a prepared statement on July 13. 'I should have planned ahead for a ride. For years, I've advocated the responsible use of our company's products. That's still my message, and our company's message, and it's the right message. I am sorry that I didn't follow it myself.'
Coors faces an arraignment on July 20.
