Pa. Restauranteurs Endorse Smoking Ban July 6, 2006
News Summary
In the wake of a new Surgeon General's report on the dangers of secondhand smoke, the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association has reversed course and endorsed a statewide indoor-smoking ban, the Associated Press reported July 5.
Patrick Conway, CEO of the group, said the change springs from concern about the health of restaurant employees. The association will now push for a smoking ban that includes restaurants, bars, casinos, and private clubs. "It should be done on a comprehensive, statewide basis," Conway said. "In other states, certain groups have tried to have themselves unfairly carved out of legislation."
Pennsylvania legislators have previously tried to pass a statewide ban, without success.
