News Summary

Residents of Mecklenburg County, N.C., who are suspicious about a party that could involve teen drinking can now call a hotline to inform police, WSOC-TV reported March 22.

The 24-Hour Teen Drinking Hotline rings the pagers of Mecklenburg County Alcohol Law Enforcement officers, who say they will raid parties and hold attendees "accountable for possessing and drinking alcohol if you're underage," according to Capt. Mike Crowley.

"If a neighbor of some kids having a party where the parents are out of town, I think they definitely would [call]. I know I would," said Charlotte resident Anne Collinson. Some teens say the hotline might cause teens to cancel parties or be more secretive about times and locations.
