News Summary

The new comedy 'Beerfest' revolves around contestants in a drinking contest, who habitually overimbibe with predictable results, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Aug. 25.

"'Beerfest,' in a nutshell, celebrates binge beer drinking as an extreme sport by way of stupid human tricks," the newspaper notes in its review.

Training for the big contest in Germany, the college students depicted in the movie spend weeks drinking and getting drunk.

"The rest is guys in lederhosen and Tyrolean hats with mincing mock-German accents ... American can-do spirit in the face of overwhelming beer consumption, and gratuitous sight gags," the review notes. "In other words, the cornerstones of modern American comedy."
