News Summary

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking public comment about alcohol advertising practices as it compiles a list of questions for the beer, wine, and liquor industries, the Chronicle of Higher Education reported Oct. 25.

A prior request for comments resulted in 1,299 responses, mostly in favor of the FTC's proposal to query the alcohol industry about its advertising practices, compliance with advertising codes, and how their ad budgets are spent. Some commenters urged the FTC to look into alcohol industry sponsorship of college-related activities.

Responses to the latest Federal Register notice from the FTC are due Nov. 24, 2006.
