News Summary

First Lady Laura Bush paid a visit to a youth addiction treatment program in St. Charles, Mo., this week, part of a planned series of visits to treatment facilities nationally, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported April 4.

Mrs. Bush met with patients and counselors at Preferred Family Healthcare's teen treatment facility in St. Charles, saying the program was "one really good example" of programs that are a good investment of public money. Previously, Mrs. Bush visited with second-graders in Albuquerque, N.M., who are learning about alcohol and other drugs in school.

"It's an incredible honor for the staff working in this facility. They deserve it," said Preferred Family Healthcare CEO Michael Schwend of Mrs. Bush's visit. "This is a fitting response to their efforts."
