DEA Raids Warehouse Full of Marijuana Snacks March 22, 2006
News Summary
A company that made marijuana-laced snacks with names like Buddahfingers, Munchy Way, Rasta Reeses, and Puff-a-Mint Patties was raided by federal anti-drug agents last week, the San Francisco Chronicle reported March 17.
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officers shut down warehouses in Oakland and Emeryville, Calif., belonging to the company, Beyond Bomb, and arrested owner Kenneth Affolter.
"This is the biggest candy marijuana factory that we have seen on the West Coast," said Javier Pena, special agent in charge of the DEA's San Francisco office. "There was a great deal of sophistication that involved different labels, pretty much knockoffs of the real thing. This is potentially dangerous for kids and people who don't know what they're eating and what they're drinking."
Other products with names that were copycats of well-known brands included Keef Kats, Stoney Ranchers, Puffsi, and Toka-Cola. DEA officials said that Beyond Bomb had packaged the snacks for distribution throughout the West Coast.
