Coors Exec Arrested for Drunk Driving July 17, 2006
News Summary
Pete Coors, chief executive of Coors Brewing Co., was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Colorado last May, the Associated Press reported on July 13.
Coors' blood alcohol level was .088, above the legal limit of .08, when he drove home from a friend's wedding celebration 7 weeks ago.
Coors was also cited for rolling through a stop sign.
'I made a mistake,' Coors said in a public statement confirming the arrest and citation. 'I should have planned ahead for a ride. For years, I've advocated the responsible use of our company's products. That's still my message, and our company's message, and it's the right message. I am sorry that I didn't follow it myself.'
Coors, president of Coors Brewing Co. since 1987 and chief executive since 2000, appears in his company's television ads. He also ran for Senate in 2004 as a Republican.
