News Summary

President Bush has announced the nomination of Oklahoma state health official Terry L. Cline, Ph.D., to be the next administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Cline is currently the Oklahoma Secretary of Health and commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. He previously served as a healthcare policy fellow at SAMHSA, and clinical director of the Cambridge Youth Guidance Center.

Former SAMHSA administrator Charles Curie left the agency in August after five years tenure. Eric Broderick, D.D.S., a rear admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service, has been acting administrator since that time.
