News Summary

Following precedent set by a number of state governments, Target stores are voluntarily pulling cold medicines that can be used to make methamphetamine off store shelves, the Associated Press reported April 18.

Drugs containing pseudoephedrine will only be sold from behind pharmacy counters, the company said, and won't be sold at all in stores that don't have pharmacies. "As a national retailers, it is becoming increasingly difficult to meet the requirements of each individual city, county and state law," said Mary Kelly, vice president of health, beauty and pharmacy, in explaining the decision.

The policy will go into effect within the next three months, company officials said.
