News Summary

A Wisconsin woman who was confined to a hospital after seeking help for her OxyContin addiction has been released, the Associated Press reported May 24.

Racine County Circuit Court Judge Charles Constantine released Rachael Lowe, 20, from St. Luke's Hospital, where she had been held since last month after seeking help for her addiction at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Constantine ordered Lowe to keep drugs out of her house, continue taking methadone, and cooperate with her doctors.

Lowe's case gained national attention after she was confined under Wisconsin's "cocaine mom" law, designed to protect unborn children from their mothers' drug addictions. Constantine said that Lowe could be confined again if she does not meet the conditions of her release.
