News Summary

A controversial video game that allows players to take drugs has been banned from sale in Australia, GamesIndustry.biz reported April 14.

The Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) effectively banned the sale of the Midway game, which follows the trials and temptations of a narcotics officer, by refusing to classify it under the nation's rating system. A majority of board members ruled the game was "unsuitable for a minor to see or play."

Australia's rating system only provides for approving games that are suitable for uses age 15 or older; critics say that the system should be changed to include a category for games suitable for adults aged 18 or older.

The OFLC also recently banned the latest incarnation of the sexually explicit Leisure Suit Larry game series.
