News Summary

The U.S. Justice Department has unveiled a new website designed to discourage teen methamphetamine use, even as federal agents made 400 meth-related arrests nationwide, the Washington Post reported Aug. 31.

Along with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Justice officials announced the launch of the Just Think Twice website. The site includes before-and-after pictures of meth users, images of users' rotten teeth, and other warnings about use of the drug. "Some say it's great, but it's really your worst nightmare," the site states.

Stung by criticism from key lawmakers over its meth policies, the Bush administration also announced hundreds of arrests in a crackdown on 56 clandestine meth labs across the country. Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and DEA Administrator Karen P. Tandy led the press conference. Gonzales said more than 200 police departments were involved in "Operation Wildfire."

"Meth has spread like wildfire across the United States," Tandy said. "It has burned out communities, scorched childhoods, and charred once happy and productive lives beyond recognition."
