Oklahoma University Bans Drinking in Residences December 6, 2004

According to University of Oklahoma President David Boren, students with three alcohol violations will now be suspended for one semester.
"These policies send a strong signal that alcohol abuse will not be tolerated at the University of Oklahoma," Boren said.
On Sept. 30, 19-year-old Blake Hammontree died after a Sigma Chi fraternity party. He had a blood-alcohol content that was more than five times the legal limit.
To ensure that fraternities and residence halls are complying with the ban, Boren said that university staff members would make unannounced inspections.
