News Summary

Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry signed into law a measure that would restrict sales of certain cold remedies in the state that are commonly used in the making of methamphetamine, the Associated Press reported April 7.

Under the law, cold tablets containing pseudoephedrine, which is frequently found in decongestants, will be banned from retail stores. Only pharmacies would be allowed to sell such products to customers, who will have to show photo identification and sign for the medicine.

Henry said the law would curb meth addiction and reduce "the risk of law enforcement officers who endanger their lives every time they stop someone for speeding or walk into a house to dismantle a lab."
