Ohio Youths Tapped to Help Discourage Destructive Behaviors July 13, 2004

Officials in Washington County, Ohio, have recruited middle and high school students to help in the development of its healthy youth plan aimed at lowering the risk of children engaging in destructive behaviors, such as drinking and using drugs, the Marietta Times reported July 9.The Right Path, a 35-member community board, received a three-year grant from the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services for the project. About 20 students will be involved in the development of a Community Action Plan.
"We have gathered quite a few young people into the fold," said Miriam Keith, community education coordinator for the Washington County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Board, which administers The Right Path. "We have some very articulate young people, which is really great."
The Community Action Plan will consist of long-term goals to reduce risk factors, the expected outcomes of programming and the roles of leaders and youth in the process.
