News Summary

An initiative to legalize one ounce of marijuana in Nevada failed to garner enough qualifying signatures to be placed on the November ballot, the Nevada Appeal reported July 14.

Secretary of State Dean Heller said the initiative didn't have the required number of valid signatures in enough counties.

Organizers of the marijuana legalization petition lost a box containing 6,000 signatures from Clark County. It was found after the legal deadline for submitting signatures had passed. As a result, the marijuana petition qualified only in 12 counties instead of the required 13.
