NCADD Campaign Aimed at Changing Attitudes About Addiction April 28, 2004
News Summary
The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Inc. (NCADD) has hired a public-relations firm to plan and implement a multi-year public-education campaign aimed at changing attitudes about alcohol and other drug addiction, Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Weekly reported March 22."Nobody has yet launched a multi-year, professionally created and managed national communication campaign utilizing new methodologies and a new language in order to break through the clutter and change the way people and institutions think and act," said Roger Bensinger, an NCADD board member.
The NCADD selected Burson-Marsteller, a public-relations firm in New York, to plan and implement the campaign. The initiative will include print, television, radio and the Internet and target seven audiences: government officials, the clergy, the medical community, business leaders, the recovery community, education leaders, and the general public.
NCADD Executive Director Stacia Murphy said existing research on alcohol and other drug addiction would shape the campaign's efforts.
The NCADD is currently working to raise money for the campaign.
