Mich. DUI Program Uses Acupuncture as Treatment July 7, 2004
News Summary
Repeat drunk-driving offenders in Ingham County, Michigan, are now receiving nutrition and acupuncture treatment as part of their court-ordered sentences, the Lansing State Journal reported July 6.State and corrections officials said the county is the only one in Michigan to receive state funding to implement the new strategy, believed to reduce stress and curb the body's craving for alcohol.
"Substance abuse changes your biology. Nutritional supplements and acupuncture specifically target the deficiencies created by alcoholism," said Mary Sabaj, manager for Ingham County-City of Lansing Community Corrections, which applied for the state grant.
