News Summary

The Minnesota-based Hazelden Foundation has ended its relationship with the Florida-based Hanley-Hazelden Foundation, the Twin Cities Business Journal reported Oct. 4.

The separation puts an end to an October 2003 lawsuit filed by Hanley-Hazelden. The lawsuit was an attempt by the foundation to gain local control of the facility.

Under the agreement, the Hanley-Hazelden Foundation will operate as a separate, independent entity and will no longer be affiliated with the Hazelden Foundation.

According to Hazelden chief market-development officer Tom Galligan, the dispute "was an issue of governance and control." He added, "It became very clear we wouldn't resolve this by staying together."
