News Summary

Organizers with the Committee to Regulate and Control Marijuana in Nevada forgot to submit 6,000 petition signatures by a critical deadline, the Associated Press reported June 24.

"Unfortunately, the state law says they have to turn it all in by June 15," said Clark County Registrar Larry Lomax.

Billy Rogers, president of the Marijuana Policy Project in Washington, D.C., which is backing the petition drive, said the committee still has a sufficient number of signatures from 14 of the state's 17 counties. However, state officials have to determine whether all of the signatures are valid.

The initiative seeks voter approval to legalize possession of up to one ounce of marijuana in Nevada.
